Bed Length



Bedrooms are by nature a place of rest and solitude, and an appropriate bed length can help make the resting place even more comfortable. With the correct size fitted sheet and flat sheet, it becomes a cocoon in which one can wrap themselves within and forget about the cares of the world. A comforter in decorator style and color adds stylistic form where fit has already been established. Combined with matching pillow cases, the bed is transformed into the centerpiece of the room, offset by matching curtains. The walls must blend by design without effort into the colors of the bedroom decor, whether they are exploding mixes of reds, golds, and oranges and yellows, or soft shades of lime greens.



The 70's had something on the decades that came both before and afterwards. The artistic designers took liberty from the bold look of the 60s that was derived from the 50s, and created their own color patterns for the decade. Each designer thinks they have caught the ultimate essence of the new age, until the dawn of the next artistic wave approaches and capsizes their work, tossing them into the next decade where with hindsight they see the uselessness of trying to create an enduring mixture of colors and patterns. With rare exception, the comforter that is fashionable today will be dull and without life tomorrow. Folded up to be hauled off to Goodwill or Value Village, it will be sold to a low bidder who appreciates not the merit of the thread count, but only the fact that it looks nice and is hopefully warm.

The poly-fill interior of most comforters, while providing a thick cushyness, is inferior in quality to the down feather comforter that wise shoppers choose to buy. They think of it not merely as a purchase, but as an investment in their own care, something to keep them comfortably warm as they get restful sleep, and that will last decades, if not a lifetime when properly cared for. With labels to disclose the materials, the smart housewife is not fooled by the lightness of the cover. She knows that where there is down, feathers have been in many cases substituted to some degree. She'll look for quality brand names before making her decision, and she studies the label carefully, looking for full disclosure.
